Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is an upcoming 2017 American 3D computer-animated superhero comedy film based on the children’s novel series of the same name by Dav Pilkey. The film is being produced by DreamWorks Animation and Scholastic Entertainment with animation production provided by Mikros Image. It is directed by David Soren, written by Nicholas Stoller, and stars the voices of Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele and Kristen Schaal. The film will be released on June 2, 2017, in 3D and 2D in the United States. It is the last DreamWorks Animation film distributed by 20th Century Fox before the distribution rights of DreamWorks’ animated films get transfered to Universal Pictures in 2018.
Two imaginative elementary school students, George Beard (Kevin Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch), hypnotize their mean-spirited principal, Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms), into becoming the dim-witted superhero known as Captain Underpants, created by George and Harold. Together, they set out to a journey to stop the mad scientist Professor Poopypants (Nick Kroll), his giant minion the Turbo Toilet 2000 and henchman tattletale (snitch) genius Melvin Sneedly (Jordan Peele) from destroying Captain Underpants, taking over the world, and annihilating laughter forever.
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie was expected to be released on March 10, 2017, by 20th Century Fox, but in September 2015, The Boss Baby took over its date. The film is now scheduled for release on June 2, 2017. Other territories such as Europe and Asia will receive the film between July and October 2017.
